This week Alan Titchmarsh’s launched his new series called, Walks of Fame (ITV1, Sundays), here in Southwold in Suffolk. Lesley Hornby, otherwise known as Twiggy was the person he was interviewing. As we know Southwold has a special place in Twiggy’s heart, as it was here that her modelling career was recently relaunched, after a chance encounter in a Southwold pub with the executive marketing director of Marks & Spencer. The Show cut from clips from the past when Twiggy first became a global fashion icon, to shots and cheery chats with Alan in different locations in Southwold, Walberswick and Dunwich.
Titchmarsh, who is very much like Michael Parkinson in his style of interviewing, will often go for a bit of gentle flirting and this made for a pleasant sunday evening tv programme. They climbed the Southwold lighthouse, strolled down the Southwold pier, they went for a paddle in the sea, held hands, giggled a lot. It seemed a bit more of a date, than an interview.
Yet another TV programme to show how sumptuous Southwold is and we’re sure that this will help to see record numbers of tourists coming to Southwold in Suffolk this for their holidays this summer.
News broke yesterday that Southwold Pier has been put up for sale by its current owners.
Curent economic conditions have been blamed as the Southwold Piers bank had asked for a 40% down payment on the funds required to complete the construction of the new art deco style hotel complex which was recently given the thumbs up from planning officials. The rising costs of new hotel development meant that the current owners would need £2,000,000 plus to fund the project which they do not have at their disposal.
So who will be the new owner of the Southwold Pier? Love Southwold, the good people of Southwold and the many tourists who visit this popular attraction each year would love to know.

Jenny Jones Estate Agents has seen a welcomed benefit from their newly branded for sale signs
When Suffolk based estate agent Jennie Jones launched their rebranded image they were hoping it would set them apart from the crowd. But when the company who have offices in Southwold, designed their new “for sale” signs they didn’t think they would be having an unexpected effect on motorists driving past their client properties.
From a distance the yellow and black colours of the boards bear a remarkable resemblance to that of speed cameras, making drivers think they could be in for a fine and therfore applying their brakes to slow down.
The estate agent, which also has branches in Saxmundham and Aldeburgh was told about the confusion by Southwold bobby PC Chris Saddler who was keen to see the signs rolled out even further afield.
Sarah Mitchell, negotiator with Jennie Jones, said: “It wasn’t intentional in any way at all. I think some people think it may have been a cynical marketing ploy but it really wasn’t. We just thought the signs were more contemporary and sophisticated.
“PC Chris Saddler called into the office to say how delighted he was with their presence as it has had a serious impact on speeding on the approach roads to Southwold.”
